Pacific Citizen Biweekly

The biweekly newspaper of the JACL, Pacific Citizen provides the most up-to-date information on issues pertaining to the Japanese American community 

Pacific Citizen (PC) is a national newspaper published by the Japanese American Citizens League. Established in 1929, the PC covers news and events in the Japanese American and larger Asian Pacific American communities.

In addition to its regular issues, PC’s annual super holiday theme issue has long been an institution in the lives of Japanese Americans nationwide, gathering  writers, public figures, opinion-makers, and community organizations from across the country to address substantive pan-Asian American issues.

In the past few of years, as diverse a crew as author Bill Hosakawa, activist Daphne Kwok, playwright Velina Hasu Houston, historian Yuji Ichioka, poet/memoirist David Mura, cartoonist Peter Hironaka, cyber-guru Wataru Ebihara, and attorney/author Angela Oh have contributed original essays on themes ranging from Hapa Kids to Asian-American sports to the cultural significance of food in Japanese American heritage.

In 2006, Pacific Citizen launched its new stand-alone web site at http://www.pacificcitizen.org.

ABOUT THE JACL

Founded in 1929, the JACL is the nation’s largest membership-driven, Asian American civil rights advocacy organization, with over 24,000 members in 112 chapters throughout the country and in Japan.  JACL’s mission is to secure and uphold the human and civil rights of Americans of Japanese ancestry and others, and to preserve the cultural heritage and values of Japanese Americans.

PC ADVERTISING, SPONSORSHIP, AND DONATIONS

Support may also be provided to PC through making donations or taking honorary-level memberships directly to the Japanese American Citizens League National organization, which include a free subscription to PC.   Finally, special gala fundraisers, and regional and local chapter events will be scheduled throughout 2004 to celebrate the organization's 75th anniversary and support its continuing civil rights advocacy efforts.
