Job Description
Title: Assistant Scientist (part-time)

Effective Date of Appointment: August 16, 2014; one semester term appointment renewable contingent on performance, curricular need, and university approval.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in Geography or a closely related field. ABD applicants will be considered if all degree requirements will be met by August 15, 2014. Applicants must show evidence of relevant research experience.

Duties and Responsibilities: We seek an assistant scientist to work on an NSF funded project focused on interactions between climate change, agricultural land use, and water quality in the central United States. The successful applicant will be responsible for further land use model development and project-based GIS applications.

The Department: Geography and Environmental Resources is a department within the College of Liberal Arts. It offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geography and Environmental Resources and leads the interdisciplinary Environmental Resources and Policy Ph.D. program. Areas of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels include: Climate and Water Resources, Environmental Sustainability, and Geographic Information Science. Located in the forested Shawnee Hills, 100 miles southeast of St. Louis, Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a Carnegie Doctoral Research University (high research activity).
