FACULTY POSITION

The University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a faculty position (tenure level) related to Health Disparities and Social Inequality. The University is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for disadvantaged students.

The search will be conducted with the participation of the Department of Anthropology, and Schools of Social Welfare and Public Health. The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment in a department or departments to be determined by the candidate’s preferences, disciplinary training, and departmental fit.

The position is targeting scholars working at the intersection of socio-cultural theory, health, social inequality, and social justice to advance knowledge and practice in the impact of racism, and social-political exclusion on health status and behavior. Research topics of interest include but are not limited to the effects of social phenomena on health and disease among racial and ethnic minority populations in the United States and globally. The ideal candidate will show outstanding research accomplishment, potential for distinguished teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, interest in community and social policy research applications, and leadership ability. We encourage applications from candidates who engage in qualitative research, including ethnography, and mixed methods research. The policy implications of theoretically and evidence based research to narrow disparities in health outcomes, and access to and delivery of health care is also of interest for this position.
