PHYSICIAN SCIENTIST LEADERSHIP POSITION IN EARLY PHASE CANCER CLINICAL TRIALS

Job Description
The University of New Mexico Cancer Center (UNMCC) and the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology at the UNM School of Medicine invite physicians and physician scientists with experience and expertise in experimental therapeutics, the development of novel targeted cancer therapies, and the design and conduct of early phase human cancer clinical trials. The successful applicant will have training, experience, and expertise in early phase clinical trials (first-in-human, phase zero, and phase I) and will be expected to develop an Early Phase Clinical Trial Program at the UNMCC in both hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, with an emphasis on rapid and informative translation from the bench-to-bedside-and-back with reagents (drug candidates, laboratory tests, or experimental devices) discovered and developed in concert with the UNMCC Research Programs. The UNMCC has an integrated discovery operation involving drug repurposing, ligand-directed targeting, personalized genomics, and biotechnology/nanotechnology. Superb collaborative opportunities exist with the UNMCC Consortium partners in high-end technology and advanced material or computer sciences (at Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories) and GLP toxicology (Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute). Knowledge and experience of the biotechnology start-up environment and pharmaceutical industry landscape is desired. Significant resources, including a comprehensive start-up package and endowed positions, are available. This is an Open Rank, Open Track position. Faculty rank and appointment will be commensurate with accomplishments.

Minimum qualifications include: 1) M.D. or MD/PhD degree with board certification in Internal Medicine; 2) board certification/eligibility in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology; 3) experience and/or medical oncology fellowship training in the design and conduct of early clinical trials and investigator-initiated clinical trials; 4) understanding of and/or experience in the NIH/NCI clinical trials system, biotechnology start-up environment, and pharmaceutical industry; and 5) must be eligible to work in the U.S.; this is not a J-1 Visa Opportunity. Preferred qualifications include: 1) experience in clinical and translational research at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor; 2) experience in clinical trial regulatory requirements and affairs; 3) experience in resident/fellow education.
