Job Description

Anticipated Salary Range:    $40,000 + full state benefits available
Qualifications:
A Bachelor*s degree in a relevant area and two years of professional public relations experience; or a combination of relevant post high school education and experience to equal six years, including a minimum two years professional public relations experience.
Experience with and an advanced working knowledge of mobile communication initiatives and social media.
Experience with public relations practices.
Proficiency working with Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) or comparable software.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, especially PR writing and proofreading and editing.
Experience working with all media.
Must possess the ability to coordinate multiple and diverse projects simultaneously and often under deadline..
Superb collaboration and interpersonal skills.
A valid Florida Driver’s License or ability to obtain.
Background Check Requirements:    This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.
Confidentiality Policy:    This position requires compliance with University confidentiality policies.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field and 5 years of relevant work experience.
Schedule: If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5. Some nights. weekends, and holidays may be required as needed.
Responsibilities:    Manages media relations for the Museum and maintains and manages social media technology
Writes news releases, media alerts, and creates press kit materials suitable for the media. Maintains media distribution lists. Works in partnership with national public relations firm to ensure cohesive information exchange.
Responsible for all local and regional media relationships. Uses golf cart for tours and visiting media.
Prepares talking points exhibitions, programs, and events for use across multiple communication channels. Assists in the development of positioning statements, key messages and responses to public inquiry. Manages internal communication initiatives.    Manages Speakers Bureau Program. Contacts organizations to schedule speaking engagements. trains volunteers and interns.
Prepares materials for distribution. Reports on program activities to Marketing and Communications Director.
Manages Crisis Communication. Primary contact for media inquiries, interviews and all internal communications relating to a crisis. Prepares talking points for Executive Director, Marketing and Communications Director, Board of Directors, and Senior Staff.
Plans media relations budget.
Pay Plan:    This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
