Surgical Pathology Faculty Position

The Department of Surgical Pathology is seeking to replace a full time Pathologists’ Assistant. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, our team of 10 pathologists and 1 pathologists’ assistant (currently) serve the University of New Mexico Hospital and associated clinics, 1 outside hospital, and 1 outside outpatient surgical center. The Pathologists’ Assistant will work predominantly at the 500 bed university hospital associated with the cancer center with an annual volume of approximately 17,000 specimens.
The workload varies from simple to complex specimens, intraoperative consults, gross photography, triaging tissue for research and tumor banking and general lab management. The gross room is well staffed with trained, highly skilled technicians, allowing the P.A.’s to keep good work flow with attention to teaching the pathology residents and medical students rotating through the lab. There are no autopsy responsibilities.
This position is high visibility, interacting and consulting with pathologists, surgeons, residents, clinicians, inter-departments and staff members. Compensation will be commensurate with highest degree of education.
Minimum Requirements include:

  • Master’s degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program or Bachelor’s degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program and 3 years of directly-related experience.
  • Must be ASCP certified or eligible for certification within 1 year of employment
  • Eligible to work in the US.

Demonstrated proficiency in teaching, communication and working well with others
