HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The federal government is awarding Connecticut more than $3.3 million to help train and prepare people who have been out of work to fill jobs in high-demand industries.
The grant from the U.S. Department of Labor will help unemployed workers train for jobs in the engineering, information technology, advanced manufacturing and other industries.
The funds will also be used to expand or form new partnerships with businesses to increase the number of registered apprentices in well-paying manufacturing occupations, including quality control as well as tool and die machining.
Currently, most apprenticeship programs are within the construction industry. Officials hope to expand these on-the-job training programs to manufacturing companies.
