Departmental Overview |
|
Doe/Moffitt Circulation Services Department (DMCS) is the Library’s largest circulation services unit, offering services to students, faculty, staff, library cardholders and visitors. Moffitt and Doe Circulation Desk are primary public service points. Recorded transactions for the 5 million volume collection, located in Gardner (MAIN) Stacks (2.5 mil) , Moffitt Library (135K) and NRLF (2.8 mil) have topped one million in a given year. |

Responsibilities |
|
Assist the Library Privileges Manager with day-to-day operations of the Privileges Desk and its auxiliary services, such as the Moffitt, Doe North and South information desks. Provide service to library users through regularly scheduled hours on the Privileges public service desk; monitor and respond to e-mail correspondence and phone calls regarding library privileges and billing issues; maintain the Privileges Desk schedule of staff shifts providing service of 40-44 hours/weekly; maintain the Moffitt, Doe North and South information desks schedule of student staff providing service; assist the manager with training student staff to work the information desks
In addition, assist the Stacks Manager with day-to-day operations of the Gardner Stacks, including planning and executing stacks shifts as well as monitoring the progress of the strategic fine ordering/shelf reading plan. Assist in processing items and updating holdings records for storage at the Northern Regional Library Facility (verifying that items designated for storage are not already stored at either NRLF or the Southern Regional Library Facility, updating holdings records for storage sets, and processing NRLF returned items for repair or for maintenance in Technical Services). Participate in withdrawing books from the collection, as well as work on other Stacks-related projects and tasks as needed. |

Required Qualifications |
|
• Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system and experience with integrated library
systems, such as Innovative Interfaces Inc. Millennium.
• Experience with stacks management tasks that support access to large, complex, academic
collections.
• Computer skills to work competently within the Library’s staff PC environment: Windows,
Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), bCal calendaring application, bMail, Eudora,
Thunderbird or other email programs.
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal
communication skills to interact with a diverse community of students, faculty, visitors and staff;
attention to detail; excellent listening skills.
• Knowledge of the academic research setting to provide responsive and effective service to the
campus and greater research community. Strong public service experience.
• Demonstrated ability to display a calm demeanor when assisting library users and while under
pressure to complete projects by stated deadlines.
• Demonstrated excellent attendance record. |

Preferred Qualifications |
|
• Work-leader experience directing and monitoring the work of student employees in a library work
environment.
• Experience writing work procedures, scheduling work hours and assignments.
• Strong problem-solving skills. Basic knowledge of the UC Library Circulation and Privileges
policies, processes and procedures, in particular Library Privileges and information desk
functions.
• Experience with stacks management approaches for extensive record keeping of call number
ordering in a large complex academic library. |

Salary & Benefits |
|
Monthly: $3,219 – $3,662 Annual: $38,628 – $43,994
