AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ The Maine Department of Labor is holding a public hearing on a proposal to change some job training rules for minors.
The department wants to allow students in Career and Technical Education programs to train on equipment at the site of a business. The department says that standard industrial equipment is often too large and expensive for CTE schools to buy or maintain, which means students can’t be trained.
Businesses would have to meet certain conditions and students would be under strict supervision.
The hearing will be held on August 22 between 10 a.m. and noon at the Department of Labor building in Augusta. The public can submit written comments to the department by Sept. 3.
