CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) _ Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is warning West Virginians about fake job postings and other employment scams online.
Morrisey says scammers see places where people are looking for work as fertile ground to snag new victims.
Officials say scammers posting ads online will often use reputable businesses or organizations to trick jobseekers into handing over sensitive personal information.
Morrisey says to be wary of any online job application that asks for a fee to apply or for pre-job training.
Other scams send applicants a check that they are supposed to cash and then send a portion of the funds back to the company.
Another scam requires the applicant to fill out a lengthy, detailed application that includes information such as their Social Security number and banking information.
