TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) _ The Cherokee Nation has been awarded $3.7 million to provide training for workers who have lost jobs in high-demand industries.
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the grant to the tribe. Thirty two states and Puerto Rico also received grants, which totaled $155 million.
The grant allows the tribe’s Career Services department to develop new programs to help long-term dislocated workers and those likely to exhaust their unemployment with work-based training. Existing programs to help workers will also be expanded as part of the grant.
The tribe is partnering with area businesses and employers in the fields of health care, office support, education and construction
