ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) _ A Maryland casino is returning to Atlantic City to host a two-day job fair this week as thousands of workers in the city prepare to be laid off.
Maryland Live! Casino will host the job fair at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Revel Casino Hotel announced last week that it was planning to close Sept. 2 after failing to find a buyer after declaring bankruptcy for a second time. The Showboat is closing on Aug. 31 and Trump Plaza is closing on Sept. 16.
The three closures will leave about 8,000 Atlantic City casino workers out of work.
Carmen Gonzales, a spokeswoman for Maryland Live!, said that the company hired about 50 workers from an Atlantic City job fair held after news of the closing of The Atlantic Club casino. It made offers to about two dozen others after a job fair earlier this month and others were asked to come to Maryland for follow-up interviews.
Recruiters and hiring managers from Maryland Live! will be on hand to interview candidates for full and part-time jobs in all departments, including casino operations, food and beverage, marketing, finance, and security. On-the-spot job offers will be made to some applicants.
The casino is located at the Arundel Mills Mall, halfway between Baltimore and Washington.
Applicants for the Maryland Live! jobs must be at least 21.
