COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The state agency that supervises people on probation in South Carolina says a job fair it sponsored was a huge success.

The Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services said more than 800 people attended the job fair it sponsored Friday. Not all of them were on probation or parole.

The job fair included a number of employers in construction, landscaping, manufacturing and food services.

Agency director Kela Thomas says people on probation who have jobs are much more likely not to return to prison.

About 32,000 people in South Carolina are on probation, parole or some other criminal supervision.
