The White House released a video today (June 6) to announce the upcoming The United State of Women Summit. It features First Lady Michelle Obama alongside several changemakers of color, including Laverne Cox, Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey and Shonda Rimes, plus economic and political figures like PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi and presidential advisor Valerie Jarrett. Throughout the video, the women talk about the importance of gender equity.
The United State of Women Summit is scheduled for June 14 and it will delve into topics like education opportunity, violence against women and civic leadership. The campaign leading up to the summit also invites people to pledge to fight wage inequality and sexism in other forms. Those who cannot make it to the D.C. summit may participate in regional events dedicated to the summit’s core focus of eliminating structural sexism.
