Like all stellar commencement speeches, Bullock kept it short and sweet.

Graduations are boring, so schools owe it to guests to recruit good commencement speakers. Enter Sandra Bullock, who surprised Warren Easton Charter High School graduates in New Orleans on Monday to relay an assortment of life lessons. The Oscar winner used her 4-year-old son Louis, whom she and ex-husband Jesse James adopted in New Orleans in 2010, as a source of inspiration.

Some of her best pieces of advice include:
“Eat something green every day with every meal.”
“Do not pick your nose in public.”
“If someone doesn’t want to play with you, it’s okay. It’s okay. Not everyone is going to love us; go find someone who does want to play with you and who appreciates what you have to offer.”

The four-minute oration may be meant for high schoolers’ short attention spans, but it’s exactly what we all need: pithy guidance about finding your “joy” from the queen of Hollywood charm.
