The Achievement Network Staff Accountant Position is available immediately Location: Boston Organizational Overview: Founded in Boston in 2005, The Achievement Network (ANet) is an entrepreneurial, rapidly expanding nonprofit organization on the cutting edge of education reform. ANet offers a comprehensive solution to boost a school’s capacity to adopt a data-driven approach, involving three key strategies: I. Implement standards-aligned quarterly assessments and user-friendly data reports to determine which standards students are mastering and also where there are gaps in student learning. II. Provide intensive coaching to help schools use the data effectively to create action plans to address gaps in learning and to re-teach concepts that students have not yet mastered. III. Facilitate a peer network of leaders and teachers for best practice sharing and collaboration to accelerate improvement in schools across the network. ANet has experienced tremendous growth over the last four years, and now serves over 350 schools educating 100,000 students in Massachusetts, Chicago, Newark, New Orleans, New York City, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C. Across our national network, our partner schools are outperforming their peers, with schools in most of our networks achieving twice the gains of non-ANet schools. ANet is an innovative organization experiencing tremendous growth; by 2017 ANet expects to reach 250,000 students while continuing to deliver breakthrough results for schools.   Position Overview: We are seeking a focused and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to assist the Director of Finance with all areas relating to accounting functions and financial reporting. He/she will be responsible for daily, weekly and monthly accounting tasks and activities to ensure timely closes and accurate financial reporting.  This position must meet tight deadlines and execute a multitude of accounting activities including A/R, A/P, travel and expenses, general ledger preparation, fund accounting, internal/external audits and legal compliance. The Staff Accountant is also expected to make recommendations to the Accounting Manager for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, procedures and systems to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.  The successful candidate to the Staff Accountant role will work with a four-person team supporting an organizational operating budget of $19 million. Responsibilities: • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Manage Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P) and Travel and Expenses (T&E) processes and systems, the American Express Program • Perform data entry for A/R, A/P, T&E and monthly close process • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close • Maintain financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and fund accounting • Maintain accounting controls; recommend revisions to accounting policies and procedures as needed • Support audit activities including the A133 audit   Experience and Educational Background: • BA/BS • Minimum of 2-3 years prior experience in accounting • Demonstrated experience in project/process management Required Skills and Characteristics: In order to be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the following: • A collaborative and flexible leadership style, with a strong service mentality.
