UCSD – Sr. Financial Analyst – La Jolla, CA
Incumbent serves as the Sr. Financial Analyst within Business & Financial Services (BFS) – Office of the Controller. This position provides a high-level of analytical research and financial reporting for assigned operating units, programs, and project activities. Independently prepares monthly financial statements and project based financial reports. Proactively researches and prepares tracking reports and statistical information; advises management of issues and provides solutions to address concerns. Independently compiles budgetary and/or projection data from various internal and external sources and adjusts as changes warrant. Administers and monitors resources to ensure that operations are within budget and follow internal and external protocols, policies, and best practices. Assists in the allocation of all approved operating and one-time budgets, project activities.
Assists in the preparation of various departments multi-year expense trend reports. Assist lead analyst in providing Vice Chancellor’s Office and Budget Office with department wide information. Creates and maintains project based reporting systems to address various types of reporting activities to meet customers’ needs. Performs monthly reconciliations, tracking and project costing activities. Processes cost transfers, budget adjustments and other adjusting entries. Follows-up on outstanding budget issues and assures that reasonable solutions are attained. Maintains and updates all BFS Budget and Finance website information. Actively participates as a member of the BFS financial team and other assigned team activities. Monitors Chancellor’s Administrative Fund to ensure accuracy and compliance to UC polices in all aspects of fund.
Works with staff from the Chancellors Office, UCSD Budget Office, and/or Office of the President to resolve any discrepancies. Coordinates the annual review and update of the UCSD Administrative Fund Policy Document. Provides AMAS with requested fund data in support of the annual external audit process. Assures that costs are relevant to the Chancellor’s Administrative Fund as opposed to the House Account that is monitored by the Campus Budget Office. Participates as an active member of the BFS Finance Team and provides assistance to HR-Administration., Controller Executive Group on special projects as they arise. Provides Budget Director with various adhoc reporting activities and supports changing system ehnacmenet projects. Fiscal closing and audit support is a critical business period during which vacation requests may not be approved.
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University or College with an emphasis on Management, Accounting, Statistics, and/or Finance; and four years of experience in administrative analysis or operations research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience and knowledge of concepts of accounting principles including fund accounting, internal control standards, and cost accounting. Technical skills to interpret and apply those principles to budgetary and/or accounting tasks.
Demonstrated expertise in the principles and practices of fiscal planning analysis, budgetary systems and forecasting, and fund accounting.
Expert skills in analyzing large quantities of financial, budget and employee data, summarizing and extracting pertinent data, compiling relevant information in a variety of appropriate formats.
Strong experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, and Outlook. Intermediate Excel skills level, with emphasis in creating new reporting documents, analytics, streamlined & comprehensive reporting tools.
Demonstrated expertise in applying advanced computer technology as a problem-solving tool in financial modeling, analysis, budgetary management, and other administrative functions.
-Knowledge of HTML editors and other Web site development tools.
-Knowledge and application of campus Integrated Financial Information System (IFIS), Payroll Personnel System (PPS)
