UCSD – Cisco Wireless RF Network Engineer
Administrative Computing and Telecommunications’ (ACT) Data Communications team, in partnership with the ACT Network Architects, Security Team and other colleagues within ACT, and several other campus departments, strives to provide UC San Diego with a state of the art sophisticated data network infrastructure, both wired and wireless. The Data Communications team designs, configures, maintains, upgrades and monitors UC San Diego’s campus-wide local, wide area, and wireless networks. We support the campus routers and switches which are primarily Cisco.
These devices operate on Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g/n, and other technologies in a heterogeneous multi-protocol environment. The Cisco Wireless RF Network Engineer provides design, installation, engineering, and maintenance assistance on the UC San Diego campus wireless and wired local area network. Troubleshoots wireless network radio frequency interference, coverage, access point hardware problems, power over ethernet and other technical issues across campus while in the field as well as in the office. Uses spectrum analyzer, watt meter and various software tools to provide expert level RF troubleshooting.
~~Must be available to work rotating “time on call” shifts and overtime or odd hours, as needed.
