Transportation Planner II – Regional Transit Coordination and Operations – Arlington, TX

Since 1974, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.

 

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an entry- or mid-level Transportation Planner in Regional Transit Coordination and Operations to develop, implement and monitor public transportation projects in North Central Texas. This individual will work closely with public and private transportation providers, local governments, social service agencies, advocacy groups and communities to implement public transportation projects funded through Federal Transit Administration (FTA) programs for the general public and transit-dependent populations. This individual will foster partnerships, identify resources and develop projects. Additional responsibilities may include implementing projects identified by the Regional Transportation Council (RTC), supporting committees and work groups, and developing innovative partnerships. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Regional and Community Mobility Coordination

• Assisting in the implementation of strategies outlined in Access North Texas (www.accessnorthtexas.org)
• Supporting the coordination of planning activities that enhance regional connectivity between rural and urban areas
• Providing assistance by working collaboratively with transportation providers and human service agencies to increase access and improve service for transit-dependent populations
• Assisting in communication with external partners and the public to promote the enhancement and facilitation of access to transportation services
• Assisting in building supportive community networks by coordinating resources, conducting outreach through public presentations, and finding innovative solutions to meet various transportation goals in communities
• Representing NCTCOG through oral and written communications in meetings and in the field with representatives of public and privately owned transportation providers, and various public and private groups concerned with transit matters

 

Project Management

• Supporting project management activities for short-term projects from application and award through project close-out
• Communicating with grantees to provide support for project implementation, funding and sustainability matters
• Tracking project progress, goals and deliverables
• Providing technical assistance and support within the agency and to external partners
• Writing print and electronic technical reports and project status reports

 

Program and Project Administration

• Actively exploring innovative strategies to address transportation needs of low-income individuals, people with disabilities, older adults, and other transportation-dependent groups
• Entering data and maintaining databases, calendars and contact lists
• Assisting with federal grant management and reporting activities
• Drafting, monitoring and updating Web site and social media content
• Assisting in the performance of general and technical research, data collection, and analysis
• Assisting in ongoing identification of inefficiencies in public and human service transportation
• Assisting in compliance reviews
• Assisting in the conduct of competitive calls for projects
• Preparing correspondence and presentations

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Business Administration or related area
• At least one year of job-related experience

• Implementing regional and/or public transportation projects
• Working with federal, state or local transportation programs
• Working with community groups and government agencies
• Working with transit-dependent populations

 

Salary

Minimum of $42,077.00 annually
