LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Elected officials are launching a Las Vegas version of a White House effort to push boys and young men of color toward success.
Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford is set to join Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly and superintendent Pat Skorkowsky Tuesday morning at West Preparatory Academy to kick off the initiative.
The local effort aligns with the White House’s “My Brother’s Keeper” project, which aims to close achievement gaps and address the disproportionate number of black and Hispanic men who are unemployed or in the criminal justice system.
Foundations have committed hundreds of millions of dollars to the initiative.
