LAS VEGAS (AP) _ The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Clark County, alleging pay inequities and employment bias against a black woman who serves as county diversity director because of her race and gender.
A civil lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas seeks unspecified monetary damages for Therese Scupi, along with a court order requiring the county to correct policies and practices that the federal government says are discriminatory.
County officials didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
The complaint says Scupi was hired in 1999 as a human resources analyst and promoted to diversity director in 2002.
It alleges that she was paid less than other administrators at similar levels, and less than one assistant director.
The complaint alleges that Scupi’s responsibilities were cut back after she complained.
